Broussard, David & Moroux: A Historic Landmark in the Heart of Downtown Lafayette

In the early 1820s, this site became home to Judge Thomas B. Brashear, the very first judge of Lafayette Parish. His presence marked the beginning of a civic legacy, and in 1823, the building became the first meeting place of the Lafayette Parish Police Jury.

In 1840, the property had taken on a new purpose. The trustees of Vermillionville Academy purchased the site to establish Lafayette’s first school.

Decades later, in 1886, Dr. Nathaniel Moss acquired the property and by 1906, he had transformed it into Moss Pharmacy. More than just a pharmacy, it became a symbol of progress, and for much of the early 20th century, Moss Pharmacy was where Lafayette’s future business leaders got their start.

In 1942 Moss Pharmacy closed with the opening of City Pharmacy, operated by George J. Melchior. Located across from the Gordon Hotel, it quickly became frequented by celebrities, athletes, and politicians visiting Lafayette, until its closure in 1962.

The building stood quietly for many years, until 2014, when Richard Broussard and Blake David saw its potential. They undertook a restoration of the entire structure, preserving its historic charm while breathing new life into its interior and exterior.

Today, Broussard, David & Moroux stands as a landmark to nearly two centuries of transformation, vision, and community. Over a decade later, the building is home to 14 attorneys and 22 full-time team members.
